Castlevania fans have had a pretty decent year. Two characters from the main series will be appearing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Castlevania Requiem is set to bring the franchise's two best games to the PlayStation 4, and most importantly, the hit Netflix show from last year boosted a renewed interest in the property and will continue airing for a second season later this month.
Not bad for a series that had been reduced to "erotic violence" pachinko machine fodder after its last original game tanked.
If these baby steps are hints of a full-on revival of the classic action franchise, then we'll take this recently launched website straight from Konami as yet another huge hint. The portal covers games all the way back to the 80s, and it makes brief mention of the lore behind the franchise and various characters that appear in the games and hit show.
The website is not perfect yet. A lot of links remain broken, and the timeline for the series does not include Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, half of the bundle you're getting in Castlevania Requiem later this month. However, you can consider us happy that Konami is trying!
I mean… it's not that far removed the path Mega Man took, is it? An appearance in Super Smash Bros., a compilation of his greatest games, a former producer creating an indie game in a similar vein, and finally, an animated television show. That's what it took to get ourselves the first Mega Man game in a decade.
Maybe Konami has something planned for Castlevania as well. You never know! Be sure to buy Castlevania Requiem for the PlayStation 4 and tune in to Netflix for season 2 of Castlevania, both on Oct. 26.
