Any child of the 90s remembers Silent Scope. It was that machine in your local arcade with the massive sniper rifle mounted right on the front. Pop in some quarters, take aim, zoom in for the headshot, BOOM, you’re dead because this is a hard game, and now your quarters have been wasted.
Better luck next time, sucker! Should have played Time Crisis 2!
Well, Konami is looking to recreate that feeling with a brand new game in the ancient arcade series. Silent Scope: Bone Eater brings back the classic 90s formula of aiming, shooting, and chaining head shots, but it does so with all the flair of a modern day Japanese arcade game. Bright lights and an obnoxious anime look are probably just the beginning.
If anything, that last screenshot proves that Konami certainly hasn’t evolved or changed its sentimentality since the 1990s. It’s also a little disappointing that this machine features half a rifle.
I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for Silent Scope: Bone Eater when it gets released in Japan, and I’ll let you know if it’s worth dropping a handful of quarters on at your local movie theater if it ever makes its way to the states.
