In their pre-E3 conference, an idea that's becoming somewhat of a trend in the gaming industry, Konami announced that three of its best franchises will be getting HD collections on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The franchises getting the HD collection treatment are Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and Zone of the Enders. Each game will see, obviously, an HD update, new textures, new artwork, new sound as well as Trophies and Achievements.

What is odd about the collections, however, are the games included within. Metal Gear's collection includes Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The Silent Hill collection includes Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3. You'll obviously notice that these two bundles do not include HD updates for the first entry in either series.

Zone of the Enders, however, includes both the original game and its sequel.

Pricing and full release dates have not been announced just yet. The Metal Gear Solid HD collection will see release this November, while Zone of the Enders will release sometime in 2012. The Silent Hill collection has not received a proper release window.

All three of these franchises carry a large and dedicated fan base. Those within can't help but notice the hole left by the absence of the original Metal Gear and the original Silent Hill in both collections. However, the fresh coat of paint and Achievements/Trophies make each package well worth the journey through each series.

As more E3 announcements come, both pre-show and during, TechnoBuffalo will be all over them. Stay tuned.
