Kingsman: The Secret Service burst on to the scene in 2014, opening the door for a budding franchise. The person at the helm, director Matthew Vaughn, now has complete control to do whatever he want with the sequels, and some of his ideas involve a Kingsman 3 and Statesman spinoff.
In an interview with CinemaBlend, Vaughn expanded upon his ideas for concluding a possible Kingsman trilogy and moving on to other spinoffs. Nothing is set in stone, but if Kingsman: The Golden Circle continues the success of its predecessor, he is completely open to continue the franchise beyond two movies.
Here’s what Vaughn said of Kingsman 3:
I think there’s a story in my head which will be finished by the end of the next one. And then after that then, of course, there could be Statesman movies, there could be spinoff character films. The universe could continue with new agents. Or, you know, Colin (Firth) could become Arthur (…) or new characters could come in. Or new kids get trained. There’s so many options, but I also think it’s better not to be too greedy.
The ideas are bursting out of Vaughn’s head already. He’s not only thinking of Kingsman 3, but of future movies and storylines that can be explored. With new characters like Champ (Jeff Bridges), Tequila (Channing Tatum) and Ginger (Halle Berry), a lot of storylines can be explored with the Statesman spinoff.
It should be commended that Vaughn brought things back at the end of the quote. Sure, he can make three or four more movies, but lets pump the breaks before we get too ahead of ourselves. For right now, after Kingsman 2, Vaughn will start with Kingsman 3 and go from there. But there are a lot of possibilities.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is in theaters this Friday, September 22.
