A lot is riding on Justice League, Zack Snyder’s follow-up to the critically panned Batman v Superman. Not only is it the first time we’ll see these heroes come together, but it’s following on the heels of Wonder Woman, which both critics and audiences loved.

The arrival of Justice League also marks the start of a new wave of movies in the DCEU. So, does it leave a good impression? Somewhat.

Early reactions on social media show a mixed bag of emotions. Some people seem to love Justice League, while other say it’s a huge mess. Mostly, the large majority of critics seem to agree that the plot sucks and the villain is a dud.

Josh Dickey, Entertainment Editor at Mashable, called Justice League loud, ugly, and tacky, while ComicBooksNOW’s Brandon Davis simply said, “I loved Justice League.”

Encouragingly, most everyone agreed that Justice League is very funny, and that the team works together very well. That’s very important to get right if Warner Bros. wants audiences to turn out for the film, especially after people criticized Batman v Superman for being too dark and depressing.

Coming on the heels of Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, Justice League has a lot of pressure on its shoulders. I’m not surprised by the reactions, but they’re not going to stop me from checking the movie out for myself.

You can read some of the reactions down below. Justice League hits theaters on November 17.
