Warner Bros. has a lot banking on the upcoming Justice League movie, and it looks like the studio is unhappy with its progress. Zack Snyder and the entire Justice League cast are going back for extensive reshoots to tidy up troubles the movie is experiencing.
According to a report from Splash Report, Justice League is going in back for its second round of reshoots very soon. The movie reportedly already went through a round of reshoots, but it’s going back under the knife.
“There are more reshoots COMING SOON,” said Splash Report’s source. “There have been a bunch but they’re going to do MORE.”
Also revealed in the report is since the start of production to the release of Justice League in November, a time spanning 17 months, the movie will have been “remade…twice.”
This isn’t necessarily bad news. Many movies go through reshoots. Most recently, Rogue One went through extensive reshoots to overhaul the story, and ended up grossing over $1 billion at the box office and earned widespread praise from fans. That’s the best case scenario.
What fans are fearing is a Suicide Squad situation—it too went through reshoots—where you can noticeably see the disjointed production of the film. It’s too early for those dire expectations, so let’s tread lightly with the negativity.
Soon after the Splash Report’s story gained traction, The Wrap released a report shooting down the claim that there have previously been reshoots for Justice League. This goes contrary to Splash Report’s report that this will be the second time the Justice League goes back for reshoots. The Wrap’s source also dismisses the nature of the reshoots.
“There has been no additional photography to date on Justice League, we have planned and will shoot additional pickups early summer,” revealed The Wrap’s source. “Additional photography has always been planned like most pictures in general but certainly for a tentpole of Justice League’s size and scope.”
The Wrap did end up confirming that there will definitely be reshoots for Justice League. As for the report of reshoots already occurring, Splash Report has the utmost confidence in its source.
Splash Report claims in its report its source is very well placed within the Justice League production and accurately revealed that Rogue One was going through extensive reshoots before it leaked out. He only spoke to the outlet on the condition of anonymity.
The reshoots are a good thing
Regardless of reshoots, this is the movie Warner Bros. needs to set up future DC Extended Universe movies. If it were to fail like Batman v. Superman, the fate of the DCEU would truly be up in the air. It’s for that reason that the reshoots shouldn’t be a death blow. The studio wants desperately to get this right. Given Splash Report’s claim that this is the second round of reshoots, Warner Bros. is not leaving it up to chance for the movie to be good. It’s actively involved in making it better with expensive reshoots. Let’s just hope it works out like Rogue One.
As long as the end product for Justice League is good, this will just be a footnote in its success.
