Aside from the full trailer and other notes, not much is known about the peripheral aspects in Justice League. Sure, the heroes unite and fight Steppenwolf to stop him destroying the Earth and along the way there are some hijinks. That’s about it. Things are changing in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, as the cast discusses probably the most important detail in the movie—Batman’s new gigantic flying jet called the Flying Fox.
The Dark Knight has always been sort of a loner. Most of his fancy gadgets and vehicles are meant for one, but now that he’s made a few more friends, he’s been forced to upgrade to something a little more spacious. Enter the Flying Fox.
It isn’t the sleek jet like the one in the comics; it’s more a brusque utility vehicle meant to be a moving base rather than a nimble aircraft. It still looks good with hard edges and a metallic dark scheme that definitely takes after its creator. From the one concept image that was shown off, you can see the front of the jet with red front mirror, elevated front compartment and side wings that serve as the base for the cargo bay.
“You can put three Batmobiles in the lower part of it,” revealed production designer Patrick Tatopoulos. “I didn’t want to do a sleek airplane; it needed to feel like an extremely avant-garde classic. With the maneuverability of a jet—but it can actually carry things.”
And carry things it can. At the bottom base of the jet is a cargo compartment that can house multiple items like three Batmobiles or other kickass gear Batman has. When you move up to the first and second floor you reach other important compartments of the Flying Fox.
“The second floor is like a cultural center, with computer terminals,” continued Tatopoulos. “The third story is the cockpit. Whatever floor you are on, you can see [the other] two stories.”
From Tatopoulos’ statement, it sounds as if the Flying Fox has a lot of open space. We imagine it’s to keep communication between the Justice League constant.
You can check out the Flying Fox in all of its glory when Justice League hits theaters November 17.
