After months of anticipation, the trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle finally dropped, and it’s a raucous adventure through jungle.
The new movie is a remake of the original released in 1995, but it takes a different approach. Instead of it being a board game, it’s now a game console that extracts any person that plays it into Jumanji. This time around, it’s four kids who get stuck with cleaning duties in their school’s basement. Naturally, they begin to play it and they are off to the jungle.
Each kid enters the game as a character: Dr. Smolder Bravestone (The Rock), Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillian), Moose Finbar (Kevin Hart) and Professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black). The Rock is an aw-shucks muscle man; Karen Gillian is a kick-ass heroine; Kevin Hart is his usual self-deprecating self; and Jack Black is a highly confused professor who has a thing for The Rock’s character. With this kind of comedic talent, you know the movie will be filled with funny moments, and the trailer shows off a few of them.
What is differentiating the remake from the original is that it takes place inside the game instead of our world. Inside the jungle, hence the Welcome to the Jungle subtitle, the characters have their run-ins with all types of bad guys and menacing animals. Not sure if any will recreate the same magic the first movie had with the lion in the attic or monkeys in the kitchen, but we’re hoping they do.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will hit theaters December 20, 2017.
