Apple legal

A little bit of hilarity here to spark up your Thursday: Judge Lucy Koh, who is presiding over the Apple vs. Samsung trial in California, got a little bit heated today after Apple's legal team gave her a 75-page briefing and suggested it had 22 witnesses on deck for possible rebuttals. "Unless you're smoking crack, you know these witnesses aren't going to be called," she responded to Apple's legal team. "I'm billing you all [time] for being unreasonable," she added.

Apple's litigators agreed to shorten the length of the briefing and also said that, of the 22 witnesses listed, several were for Samsung, The Verge explained. "First, your honor, I'm not smoking crack," Apple lawyer William Lee said. "I can promise you that."

Judge Lucy Koh clearly wants this four week trial to end as soon as possible. Samsung and Apple have both presented compelling arguments as to why the other infringed on design and utility patents, but even Koh said she sees risks for both sides. On Wednesday, she urged that the two firms try to settle the dispute via a phone call before the jury makes its final decision.
