Recent reports had promised that two new fitness trackers were on the way from Jawbone, and today they've been made official. The UP Move is an all-new $50 device that promises up to six months of battery life, while the UP3 is dubbed "the world's most advanced tracker."
UP Move is Jawbone's first step into the entry-level fitness tracking market, and an effort to counter more affordable wearables from the likes of Misfit and Xaiomi. It's basic, but it delivers almost all of the features you've come to expect from a Jawbone device, and it's less than half the price of the UP3.
The UP Move has a water-resistant anodized aluminum chassis, and you can clip it onto your clothes or wear it on your wrist. It'll track your activity and your sleep and tell you how many calories you've burned each day, and it syncs with the existing Jawbone UP app.
Perhaps the UP Move's best feature is its battery life; it uses a single CR2032 cell battery that provides you with up to six months of use before you need to swap it out. That means you can literally wear it all day, every day, and never have to worry about charging.
UP Move comes in five colors, and it's priced at just $50. You can pre-order yours now from the Jawbone website and shipping will begin on November 19.
If you're looking for something a little more advanced, then there's the new UP3, the first Jawbone tracker with a built-in heart rate monitor. It doesn't just measure your beats-per-minute; it uses Jawbone's advanced bioimpedance sensors to analyze heart rate information and "help you take care of the most important organ in your body."
Rather than taking your heart rate only when you ask it to, or on a continual basis (which would waste battery life), UP3 takes three different types of measurements as they're needed — while you're exercising, while you're resting, and while you carry out every day tasks.
By analyzing these measurements, UP3 can give you an insight into how healthy your heart is, and help you improve it. The technology also allows UP3 to measure your respiration rate and galvanic skin response, but these features will arrive next year in a software update.
Like the UP Move, UP3 also includes Smart Coach, sleep and activity tracking, and information on how many calories you've burned. On top of all that, it's water-resistant, and it provides a silent Smart Alarm and Idle Alerts to make sure you stay moving during the day.
UP3 will be priced at $180 when it goes on sale later this year. It will initially launch only in black, but new colors will be arriving next year.
