The Gears of War franchise is notoriously violent and targeted at an extremely mature audience. Rumors began to surface that the series would have a Kinect-enabled title in the near future, and many were expecting an announcement at the Video Game Awards Show in December. Though that did not happen, new details have emerged that indicate that this Gears of War game truly does exist.

Gears of Wars: ExileEpic Games, the developer of the franchise, has filed a trademark for the title Gears of War: Exile. It is widely accepted that this will be the name of the Kinect iteration of the series.

Neither Microsoft nor Epic Games have commented on the news, giving the traditional response, “We do not comment on rumors or speculation.”

It would be interesting to see a mature title such as Gears of War: Exile come out with Kinect capability, considering the fact that the console peripheral has been largely successful with a far more casual demographic. Would hardcore gamers embrace this concept?

Microsoft promised that Kinect would have something to offer to hardcore gamers. The company’s initial research indicated that initial adopters would not want first-person shooters, but rather would want titles similar to those found on the Wii. We now seem to be entering the second wave of Kinect content considering the fact that the Redmond-based company was able to sell about 8 million units of its peripherals over the holidays.

Gears of WarsWhile we might not see this game in the near future, the developer of the acclaimed series recently announced that the bundled version of the series, entitled Gears of War: Triple Pack. If you own an Xbox and haven’t given the series a shot, now might be the time to jump in.

What do you think? Will Gears of War come to Kinect and revive hardcore interest in the peripheral? If it does, would you even be interested? Let us know in the comments below.
