While the iPhone X’s notch isn’t a major issue during daily use, it’s been an easy target for criticism. Even Samsung got in on the fun by mocking Apple in its latest marketing. But Samsung will reportedly have to come up with a new angle when Apple unleashes a new iPhone in 2019.
According to ET News, the Cupertino company is gearing up to release an iPhone X-like device with the TrueDepth camera embedded in the device’s front-facing camera. Which means the handset could very well end up looking a lot like the Essential Phone, cyclops eye and all.
ET News reported:
It is heard that Apple is planning to strengthen face sensing function starting from 2019 models. That is why it is planning to increase number of parts that will be used for iPhones and is looking into combination of a face recognition module with a camera module.
The iPhone X’s True Depth camera, which makes Face ID possible, features a complex array of components, including an infrared camera, flood illuminator, dot projector, and more. With more advancements and refinements, Apple will reportedly be able to house these sensors with the front-facing camera.
The notch has become a part of the iPhone X’s identity, but I don’t suppose anyone will complain about its demise. If Apple can minimize the notch’s size, the company will get even closer to a truly all-screen device.
Unfortunately, because Apple isn’t expected to minimize the notch’s size until 2019, this year will likely see the company make minor changes to the iPhone X before introducing something much more significant.
Even without a big change expected for the iPhone X, Apple is rumored to expand its mobile lineup even more this year, with an iPhone SE 2, 6.5-inch iPhone, and a 6.1-inch iPhone.
