Apple on Wednesday officially unveiled the iPhone XR, its affordable, colorful flagship. The device slots in below the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max but it still looks to sport a number of high-end features, including an edge-to-edge display, Face ID and a number of new colors.

The new model is Apple’s new affordable iPhone to replace the iPhone 8 line that was available last year. It offers many of the features available on the iPhone X but in a new body made of glass and aluminum.

Apple added a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina LCD display with a 1792 by 828 resolution with 326 pixel per inch that reaches from edge to edge. It’s the first LCD display Apple has offered in the new design. The new display design makes way for the gesture-based controls first introduced with the iPhone X.

Unlike the two other iPhones announced, the Xs and Xs Max, the iPhone XR only comes with a single 12MP camera with OIS (optical image stabilization), Smart HDR and Portrait Model with Depth Control. However, the front does feature the same camera system found in the higher end models with the 7MP front-facing camera.

Speaking of the front-facing camera, it is one of the many sensors used for the True Depth system used for Apple’s Face ID biometric sensor, which is available on the iPhone XR.

Powering everything is Apple’s new A12 Bionic chip, the most smartest and powerful chip include in a iPhone that comes with the new next-generation Neural Engine Apple talked about in detail during the event.

It’s available in six colors: Black, White, Blue, Coral, Yellow and (PRODUCT) RED. Each looks very eye-catching and should help capture the attention from customers looking to get a smartphone with some color. The iPhone XR features IP67 water and dust resistance and the most durable glass in a phone, as Apple claims. The new glass back makes way for wireless charging.

Other features the iPhone XR borrows from more expensive brethren is the stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.0, LTE advanced connection and Dual SIM.

The iPhone XR will be available in three different storage configurations: 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. It will start at $749 with pre-orders opening on October 19 and will ship out October 26.
