Whenever the next iPhone XR rolls around, it could feature much faster data speeds.
Apple’s next colorful iPhone model is going to get an antenna upgrade, according to a Barclays research note via MacRumors. Per the research note, the next-gen iPhone XR will add the 4×4 MIMO antenna design that will contribute to much faster data speeds. The current iPhone XR only comes with a 2×2 MIMO antenna.
The 4×4 MIMO antennas deliver improved LTE performance transmitting data at a much higher rate. Interestingly, the technology is already present in iPhone models with the XS and XS Max. For some unknown reason, Apple opted to withhold the tech from the iPhone XR but it looks like it’ll get the feature in 2019.
Design wise, the only difference users will see is more antenna lines on the frame of the phone. Instead of the four parallel lines on the sides, two more bands will be present at the top and bottom of the frame much like how they are with the iPhone XS body.
Apple is expected to announce its new iPhone models during its annual September event.
