The iPhone X remained the most popular smartphone for a second consecutive quarter. Research firm Strategy Analytics released estimates of smartphones shipped during the second quarter of 2018, and unsurprisingly, Apple’s latest flagship took the top spot.
According to the data, Apple shipped an estimated 16 million iPhone X units during the first three months of 2018. That’s the second quarter in a row the iPhone X was the most popular smartphone among consumers. While remarkable, even more impressive was which smartphones took the next three spots.
All three belonged to Apple. The iPhone 8 came in second with 12.5 million units shipped, the iPhone 8 Plus came in third with 8.3 million units and the iPhone 7, which was released back in 2016, came in third with 5.6 million shipped.
The first time an Android device makes an appearance on the list is Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A. It shipped 5.4 million units, barely beating out the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus and its 5.3 million units shipped for fifth place.
Earlier this week, Apple revealed it sold 52.2 million iPhones during the quarter. It did not reveal specifics, so Strategy Analytics’ estimates help fill some of the missing data. Counting the top four selling iPhones, they account for 42.4 million units sold.
The remaining 9.8 million units not accounted for likely consist of older iPhone models, including the iPhone SE and iPhone 6S. If it wasn’t clear by now, the iPhone remains the most popular smartphone in the world and it isn’t even close.
