iPhone 8 software and floating bar feature look AMAZING in action

Brandon Russell

Rumor has it Apple’s iPhone 8 interface will look a lot like the interface coming to the iPad—floating dock and all. If you need help visualizing what that might look like, developer Guilherme Rambo has a video that demonstrates the changes in action. How you use your iPhone is about to change in a big way.

Because the iPhone 8 won’t feature a home button, Apple has come up with a tweaked interface that will show a floating dock above a thin bar, which can be interacted with using gestures. For example, users will be able to swipe the bar up to unlock the phone, similar to Apple’s iconic Slide to Unlock gesture.

On the home screen, the thin bar can be swiped up to reveal a redesigned multitasking interface. Meanwhile, the dock may hide when in use and can reportedly be summoned from inside any app.

Rambo’s video shows off the new floating dock and what it could look like when launching apps. It’s not too dissimilar to how user’s interact with the iPhone now, but it will certainly be a big change considering the home button will no longer be there to jump back to the home screen.

Further rumors suggest the iPhone 8 will have several software features specific to the new device, including a Tap to Wake feature, virtual home button, 3D facial recognition, and more. It’s very likely Apple has other tricks up its sleeve, too.

Other developers in the community have released mockups showing off Apple’s potential future, including what apps may look like on the iPhone 8’s edge-to-edge display.

Apple’s big iPhone release is rumored to feature a 5.8-inch OLED display, revamped dual-camera system, wireless charging, and an all-glass design. Unfortunately, the price of the iPhone 8 could skyrocket to $999, potentially putting it out of reach for a lot of buyers.

Apple is rumored to be holding an event on September 12.
