Following a report from last week that claimed to reveal the iPhone 8’s final design, components for the upcoming handset have leaked. The images surfaced on Reddit and are reportedly sourced out of China.
As the images show, the front panel will be virtually bezel-less, save for a cutout on top that houses what is rumored to be dual front-facing cameras and other sensors. As we saw in last week’s renders, the cutout may pose a problem for notifications, though Apple has reportedly come up with a software solution that we may learn more about this fall.
The back panel appears to be all-glass and features a vertical dual-camera arrangement, rather than the horizontal setup we saw in the iPhone 7 Plus.
More importantly, the back panel doesn’t appear to feature a Touch ID sensor, suggesting Apple has figured out how to place the biometric feature underneath the iPhone 8’s display. Apple has reportedly come up against manufacturing challenges regarding the built-in Touch ID sensor, but those issues have seemingly been overcome.
Another photo appears to show the iPhone 8 up against the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus, providing us with a good idea of how their sizes will compare. The iPhone 8, which will reportedly feature a 5.8-inch display, appears to fall into a comfortable middle ground between the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus in terms of overall size.
With a September announcement looming, there’s a very good chance we’ll see many more component leaks over the next several weeks.
