A new report claims Apple is pushing for price cuts on the A9 chips heading to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
The news comes from DigiTimes, which has a pretty mixed tracked record when it comes to covering Apple news. The report notes that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has so far refused to drop its prices on the A9 chip. However, Samsung seems happy to cut Apple a deal if it means stealing away some business from TSMC. Despite these alleged issues, A9 production is apparently still on schedule.
Even if Apple does get these rumored price cuts, that doesn’t mean the discount will necessarily trickle down to consumers. We don’t expect Cupertino to change its lucrative pricing anytime soon, regardless of how much it’s spending to actually make these devices.
Rumor has it Apple will unveil the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus next month at an event set for September 9. We may also get a look at the long-rumored Apple TV refresh and new iPads.
