It’s never been Apple’s style to cater to the extravagant end of the spectrum, but it sure looks like a gold iPhone is coming. A report from earlier today claimed the company was prepping a gaudier look for its upcoming iPhone 5S, and freshly leaked photos are adding more truth to the device’s existence. It’s not a complete model, but it’s the closest thing we’ve seen. It looks… different.
Apple traditionally offers black and white models for its iPhone and iPad line, so gold would obviously be a huge departure. It’s clearly meant for a specific segment of Apple users; something to be seen and not necessarily fade into the background. The company has been open to colors in the past, and it sure looks like its cheaper iPhone line will be infused with some bright new tones. But this is something else.
It’s difficult to say how this will look beside the more familiar black and white colors we’re used to—it could look completely horrible or surprisingly nice. Pictures won’t do it justice. And how will Apple’s userbase respond? We’re less than a month away from finding out if Apple really is going with a gold model, so stay tuned.
