The iPhone 5c release date was initially set for Sept. 20 by Apple, and while quantities of the new smartphone should be available in-store on Friday as planned, customers who pre-ordered the plastic handset may see minor shipping delays. 9to5Mac reports that Apple has already sold out several models, and the device will now ship on September 25 according to the company’s website.
While the unlocked yellow variant of the iPhone 5c was the first to sellout, the mid-range smartphone’s shipping date appears delayed across the board, regardless of which color or carrier you prefer. Earlier today, several models were listed as delayed until Oct. 4 for U.S. customers, though at this time it looks like all versions of the 5c will ship just five days after initially promised. Meanwhile in China, Apple has announced that the new smartphone will ship “no later than September 21,” demonstrating the company’s emphasis on the Chinese market with its latest devices.
The iPhone 5c is available for pre-order in a number of countries around the world, with most seeing minor delays or none at all. In Canada the device is set to ship on Sept. 24, while in Hong Kong, Australia, France, Germany, Singapore and the U.K. it looks like the new smartphone should ship on time. Apple’s flagship iPhone 5s is not available for pre-order, but should be available to order online and purchase in-store starting on Sept. 20.
