iPad Mini - small

Apple’s manufacturers are allegedly preparing to build 4 million iPad mini units in September in order to meet holiday demand. We usually take reports from DigiTimes with a grain of salt, the source of this report, because its reliability is shaky at best. Worse, this time it cites “rumors circulating in the IT market” that pin an October launch for the iPad mini.

That somewhat lines up with what we’ve already heard. If Apple does indeed announce the iPad mini alongside the iPhone 5 on September 12, it is of course possible that the device will hit the store shelves a month later. Plus, Apple will obviously want to reap the benefit of having the device on holiday wishlists. The report also suggests that Apple began production of the iPad mini in June, when its manufacturers started building “several hundreds of thousand” units.

The price is still rumored to cost about $299, which could eat into the market share of both the Kindle Fire and the Google Nexus 7.
