The iPad mini 3 refresh was kind of a bummer. Apple basically added Touch ID to the iPad mini 2 and called it a day. That’s apparently going to charge with the iPad mini 4, the features of which were recently leaked in a report from Mac Otakara.

The report suggests that this year’s iPad mini 4 will basically serve as a smaller version of the iPad Air 2. I’d argue it should serve as a smaller version of the iPad Air 3, which we’ll get to in just a moment, but at least Apple isn’t ditching the smaller slate altogether. The iPad mini 4 is reportedly going to pack the same anti-reflective coating as the iPad Air 2 and the same 8-megapixel iSight camera in a 6.1mm thick body.

The report also discusses the possibility of the aforementioned iPad Air 3. It suggests that the shape of the tablet “will not be changed,” but that a new A9 chip is being considered, leaving open the “possibility” that Apple will announce three new iPads in the fall, including the rumored iPad Pro, the iPad Air 3 and the iPad mini 4.
