Apple skipped the iPad Air series this year when it announced its latest batch of tablets, but we could get a new full-sized iPad sooner than expected. A new report claims the iPad Air 3 is slated to launch in first half of 2016, while also offering a quick update on the iPhone 7.

The news comes from KGI Securities analyst and all-around Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo. He notes that the iPad Air 3 won’t feature a 3D Touch display like the ones included in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. It’s unclear exactly how Apple plans to upgrade its tablet, though a new processor seems likely.

If Apple is planning to reveal a new iPad early next year, it could be at the same rumored March event where we’re expecting to see the Apple Watch 2 and iPhone 6c. Then again, if the iPad Air 3 isn’t much of an upgrade it may not need an onstage unveiling at all.

As for the iPhone 7, Kuo simply states that the device will likely feature the same 3D Touch technology introduced earlier this year. Apple has reportedly opened its own secret lab for developing new displays, but it sounds like the company won’t have anything new ready to show off in time for next year.
