It seems that Apple has reduced its orders for iPad 2 display panels as of late, and that, of course, leads some to believe that the iPad 3 is starting to make its appearance in the supply chain.

According to a report from DigiTimes, Apple has not only been ramping down its orders on the display panels used in the iPad 2, but has already been receiving shipments from Samsung and Sharp of the 9.7-inch panels that are destined for its successor, the iPad 3.  According to sources, those two companies began shipping their panels in October, and Wintek and TPK Holdings are expected to join in on the fun either this month or in December.

While this is all rumor for the time being, this does line up with when we started to see things developing last year for the iPad 2.

If these rumors prove to be true, we can quickly glean one piece of information from it, and that is there isn’t going to be any change to the size of the iPad line this year.  9.7-inch screens have been what we’ve seen for the past two generations, and it looks like we’ll be staying with that for the third generation.  Of course, the big question is what the body of the device the panel fits into will look like.

Are you excited for the iPad 3?
