iOS 6 Maps

Apple ditched Google for its own mapping solution in iOS 6, which will provide not only 3D maps but also voice-guided turn-by-turn directions. There’s apparently another feature hidden in the application, however, that will help drivers. According to AppAdvice, Maps in iOS 6 will also feature alerts for nearby road construction.

If there’s construction along your route, for example, Maps will alert users with a roadwork icon that includes the road work is occurring on, when the construction started and what’s going on. So, if your local township is paving bumpy old Main Street you’ll know to avoid it.

iOS 6 is due out this fall and will come pre-installed on the iPhone 5 and, if it’s launched, the iPad mini. We imagine we’ll hear more about these features during Apple’s press conference on September 12.
