Marvel has yet to officially announce that Jake Gyllenhaal is part of the cast of Spider-Man: Far From Home, but at this point it would be nothing more than a formality. That’s because several set images and even a video appears to confirm the actor is indeed taking on the role of Mysterio, a.k.a. wannabe Doctor Strange.
Leaks out of the movie’s set have already revealed Spider-Man’s stealthy new suit. Now, we’re getting a good look at Gyllenhaal’s character—or a stunt double?—as the antagonist. Either way, it’s a pretty good look at what Mysterio will look like.
From what we can tell, the villain will wear his trademark golden chest plate and matching gold gauntlets. It’s an interesting and rather extravagant costume, complete with a regal cape, because all magicians need a good cape.
In the same set video we can see a character who appears to be Spider-Man dressed in his stealth suit. We still don’t have context surrounding the carnival scene, but it looks like Mysterio crashes a local celebration and wreaks havoc.
As the movie’s title suggests, Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to take place far away from New York City, taking Spider-Man farther out of his element. First, however, there’s the small matter of him coming back to life, since he perished in Avengers: Infinity War.
Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to hit theaters on July 5.
