We get it Nintendo! You really want us to buy Hyrule Warriors! An entire week of daily trailers and screenshots certainly put the game on the forefront of a lot of Nintendo fans’ minds. Good job, but naturally there is room for one more batch of screenshots, right?
Absolutely! Nintendo has fifty more screenshots to cap a busy week of hype, this time introducing a few more playable characters. More importantly, we get out first look at Lana, the mysterious character on the game’s box art. This is her first appearance in the Legend of Zelda series, and it looks like she is purely a magic user as she is described as a “White Witch.” Her book of spells create massive monoliths which I can assume will either blast, shock, or crush her enemies into oblivion.
I’m not sure how I feel about her design though. She seems way too cute and adorable for a game that takes so many ideas from the dark and gloomy Twilight Princess. Her clothes are clearly designed to appeal to the AKB fans of the otaku world, and it doesn’t quite mesh well with her surroundings or the other characters.
After Lana, we also get a look at Agitha the Princess of Bugs, who’s appearance was leaked earlier this week. As expected, she summons huge beetles and butterflies to do her bidding in battle, and when all else fails, she at least has an umbrella that can be used as a melee weapon.
Further screenshots also reveal to more villains in the game, both from The Twilight Princess infamy. Zant, the shrouded King of Twilight, battles with dual curved swords, and Argorok, “Twilit Dragon” of the City in the Sky, is also summoned to reign his terror on this incarnation of Hyrule.
Beyond the four new characters, we can determine a bit of information from these screenshots. The Twilight Princess‘ carefree imp-thing, Midna, appears extensively, and she has the ability to drag the Moon from Majora’s Mask to the Earth with the aid of the hookshot. That’s insane!
The “Twilight Earth,” known here as the “Shadow Area” also makes its appearance as a playable level, obviously pointing to this game taking place outside of the series’ canon. It simply shouldn’t exist otherwise.
Link and Zelda also have alternate costumes more in tune with their clothes from The Twilight Princess.
Seriously though, what’s with all the Twilight Princess nods? There are plenty of other Zelda games to celebrate out there, Tecmo Koei. I didn’t even like that one.
Hyrule Warriors will be released for the Wii U on Sept. 26.
