Huawei Ascend P1Huawei isn’t just focused on releasing mid-range devices, the company also has several exciting contenders lined up for the high-end market. Originally announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, rumblings from a recent Huawei event suggest the Ascend P1 is being prepared for a mid-April release in China. While the device isn’t quite as tantalizing as the quad-core Ascend D Quad, which might land in July, the Ascend P1 could offer an affordable price point and a fair amount of power. It’s equipped with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, an 8-megapixel camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, a large 1,800mAh battery, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and a 4.3-inch qHD display. Unfortunately, due to the larger battery, it’s just a hair thicker than the Huawei P1 S, which Huawei has dubbed the “world’s thinnest smartphone.” Huawei said it will launch the P1 in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany, France, Russia, Japan and Australia at a later date, although the company did not announce any details in regards to a North American launch.
