Last month, HTC issued a particularly gloomy earnings report, projecting that in its third fiscal quarter the Taiwanese company could see its first net loss in years. In response, HTC announced it would turn its attention to entry-level smartphones and today it looks like we’re getting a first look at a miniaturized HTC Zara, allegedly called the Z3 according to @evleaks.
Photos and specs for the Z3 were published today by Chinese leaker ICTech. The mid-range handset will allegedly come equipped with a 4.3-inch 480 x 800-pixel TFT display, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of expandable storage, 512 MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and dual-SIM support. The upcoming smartphone will run Android 4.1.2 and likely some version of HTC’s Sense UI. It will reportedly come in black and white models, and is rumored to cost $212.
The full-sized HTC Zara, which leaked earlier this month, offers a similar design with a larger 4.5-inch qHD display. It also sports a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, a 2,100mAh battery, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage. The handset allegedly runs the latest Android 4.3 OS, as well as Sense 5.5, a version of HTC’s homegrown UI which is still unconfirmed. Both phones are expected to launch in late 2013.
