You won’t see HTC giving up on the mobile business just yet. In the fall, the Taiwanese company should introduce a new mid-range device. The U12 Life, which is known as the ‘Imagine Life’ behind closed doors, just leaked online with its alleged specifications up for analysis.
While this will be an average-priced product like the U11 Life, HTC seems to be taking a step forward by including better-than-expected specs. The U12 Life might just give other popular mid-range devices some much-needed competition.
The leak from Android Authority suggests this phone will ship with a 6-inch Full HD+ (2160×1080) display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636, 4GB of memory, 64GB of storage, 16MP and 5MP rear cameras, a 13MP front camera with flash, and a 3600mAh battery. HTC will use Sense UI based on Android Oreo or Android P.
It should have a fingerprint scanner; however, the location is unknown. HTC would likely put the sensor on the back of the U12 Life since its display is stretched to fill the phone’s front.
Put it against last year’s model, and the U12 Life seems like a dramatic improvement. The display is larger and sharper, and just about every other area is stronger as well. HTC might secure sales if it prices the U12 Life against Motorola’s Moto G6 and HMD Global’s Nokia 6.
HTC doesn’t have all the time in the world, though. It recently faced another huge drop in revenue and cut around 1,500 jobs in an effort to save money. These woes are occurring just as the U12 Plus, its latest flagship, hits the market.
