We may have our first unofficial look at HTC’s next flagship—the U 11—thanks to a slick new concept based on factory CAD sketches.

HTC teased the device and announced the date of the event it will reveal the phone—May 16. There is no consensus as to what it will be called, but the current belief is that it will be U 11 since HTC has been using the “U” branding in its latest phones.

The concept by 91mobiles is based on information by OnLeaks, who has a strong track record of leaks. It shows of a stunning red device with glass front and back panels. The U 11 concept looks like a refined version of the U Ultra, which was already a slick phone. The front panel is black, giving the device a stealthy black on red design.

Just from the look of it, very few details can be taken from the leaks other than it will have a premium glass and metal build, USB-C and what looks like the same capacitive home button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner found in the U Ultra.

Some of the specs that have already been leaked claim the U 11 will sport a 5.5 inch QHD SuperLCD display, Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM, 12MP camera, 64GB and 128GB variants with MicroSD expandability, and a 3,000mAh battery. Those are some impressive specs on a par with the Galaxy S8.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t catch up to the Galaxy S8 or G6

The device looks really sweet, but it falls short in one very important area—display. If this in fact turns out to be the HTC U 11, it won’t have the impressive bezel-less displays found in the Galaxy S8 and G6. It instead will have chunky bezels on the top and bottom, giving it a dated look right out of the box. It’ll be tough for it to stand out in the same market where the Galaxy S8 is being praised for its innovative Infinity Display.

There’s still a chance this concept might be wrong and HTC will include a beautiful bezel-less display in the supposed U 11. Until HTC reveals the device on May 16, we’ll proceed with optimism.
