Earlier this week, we got a first taste of what HTC's next flagship phone might offer, revealing a powerful 5.5-inch phablet. But a new leak this morning suggests the company could be going in another direction entirely with the rumored One M9.

According to Twitter tipster @upleaks, HTC's next phone could feature a mix of high-end specs and mid-range hardware. The device will apparently come equipped with a 5-inch 1080p display, a next-gen Snapdragon 810 processor, an impressive 20.7-megapixel rear camera, an upgraded front-facing shooter, a 2840mAh battery and 3GB of RAM. The new phone will allegedly launch in March 2015 before hitting all the major U.S. carriers.

Compare these latest leaked specs to what we heard earlier this week, when MyDrivers claimed HTC's new phone would pack a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 805 processor, a 3500mAh battery and a 16-megapixel OIS camera. We're not sure which rumored version of the device we prefer, though it's possible both models could be in development. Rumor has it HTC plans to release an M9 Prime and a regular M9 in 2015, offering one standard flagship phone and one over-powered variant, so maybe that's what we're seeing here.

It could be a few more months before HTC announces its next flagship phone, but we're already itching to see how the company plans to follow-up the One (M8). Hopefully we'll get a clearer picture of the upcoming device soon as rumors and specs continue to leak out.
