Verizon HTC One-Lock Screen

Despite HTC acknowledging to U.S. customers its flagship HTC One device wouldn't get Android 4.4 KitKat for another week or so, some Sprint owners are already enjoying the update. The software was already in the possession of HTC's carrier partners, so it was just a matter of the mobile OS getting certification before hitting consumer devices. We thought it wouldn't be ready, per HTC, for a little while longer, but not so.

Sprint began giving word that KitKat was available to download on Friday, along with the HTC Sense 5.5 update. What a nice little surprise. Just yesterday, HTC One owners in Canada started getting a taste of Google's latest mobile OS.

However, it appears the initial roll out may have been a mistake. Once users began noticing it was available, Sprint put all further updates on hold, saying it would be available soon. But the fact that you can download it now is all that matters. Now that HTC One owners on Sprint can download the update, we're just waiting on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile to follow suit.
