HTC One A9 owners on Sprint are getting the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update over-the-air. The release brings 184 new emoji characters, camera and battery life improvements, "system enhancements," and more.

This update comes just eight weeks after Google made Android 6.0.1 available to its own Nexus smartphones, so HTC has worked quickly to get this update out of the gate. Although its version number suggests it's only a minor release, it actually contains quite a bit.

One A9 owners will notice improved battery life and tweaks to camera features, plus system enhancements that should deliver greater performance and stability. HTC has also added Wi-Fi Calling functionality.

By far the biggest change for most users, however, is the arrival of Android's new emoji. With 184 characters added, Android is now on par with iOS, and users will no longer see messages, tweets, emails, and other content with strange characters that can't be displayed.

If you have a One A9 on Sprint, head into the software update section of the Settings app to grab this update if you haven't already installed it. HTC has also made the full ROM available for manual installation via the source link below.
