HP has today announced a brand new Windows 8 tablet aimed at enterprise users called the ElitePad 900. The 10-inch slate boasts a premium aluminum chassis — like HP’s EliteBook notebooks — with a sturdy Gorilla Glass display that promises to withstand three-foot drops.

In addition to a speedy Intel Clover Trail processor, the ElitePad boasts 2GB of RAM, and 32GB or 64GB solid-state storage options — both of which are expandable via the microSD card slot. It’s also packing an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a front-facing camera capable of shooting 1080p high-definition video, and 3G/4G connectivity.

Because it’s aimed at business customers, the ElitePad features a clever digital stylus, and drive encryption to keep your data safe. It also launches with a number of business-minded accessories: there are two “SmartJackets” that are not only designed to protect the device from general wear and tear, but also extent its functionality.

One SmartJacked features two built-in USB ports, a HDMI port, a full-size memory card slot, and space for an additional battery which adds an extra 8 hours of power. The other features a built-in keyboard that turns the ElitePad into a little notebook.

HP hasn’t yet disclosed the ElitePad 900’s price tag, but it has said that the device will go on sale in the United States in January.
