DayZ, the Arma2 mod, will be getting its own standalone game later this year. That much we already knew; what's news is that the team behind DayZ would like to see it brought to home gaming consoles as well.

In speaking with Joystiq during Gamescom in Germany, Dean Hall, Project Lead on DayZ, indicated that he'd like to see the Arma2 mod bound for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Of course, he followed that up by saying that the PC will be the game's driving point.

"You're not going to put it on the consoles if you're only going to sell 100,000 units or something like that…DayZ will be driven by its PC development and it will innovative on that. And, once we're at a point, we'll take it and do a Mac version, 360 and PS3."

DayZ is a unique take on a severely worn out genre (zombies). If it can find significant success as a standalone product and then be pushed out for more platforms, color us exceptionally excited.

Those of you with a capable computer, buy Arma2 and install the DayZ mod. It's buggy, but it's awesome.
