2012 must be the year of the assassin game, because we've already taken to the world of murder in the boots of Connor, Aveline and Corvo. Who's next? Agent 47.

Altair and Ezio might be "master assassins," but Agent 47 will always take my award for the boldest and best killer. He's been at it for a long, long time, and one could argue that the Hitman series played a huge role in pioneering the genre of stealth assassination in gaming. Perhaps the newest game in this franchise could innovate the way we play these games.

Hitman: Absolution, releasing this fall, now promises to fill the franchise's universe with a whole host of living, breathing NPCs. What better way to dress up the game of contract killing than with a little virtual drama, comedy and humanity? That's what the newest trailer for Absolution asserts the game will deliver. If it actually manages to, well, the experience should be all the better.

Creating a living, breathing world in a video game is no easy task. It takes a lot of direction, interaction and forethought to give players the feeling of moving through a universe that would exist both with or without them.

Hitman: Absolution will launch for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms on November 20th. Will this game make you holiday buying list?
