In this weekly column, we'll be selecting inexpensive, discarded titles from still playable consoles for your perusal. They may be games you've heard of and remember playing, or they may be games that have flown completely off of your radar. Just know that we love them and they're available on the cheap. That's a bonafide win/win situation.

If you have any favorite titles that you consider hidden gems, let us know in the comments below and we might feature your pick in the weekly column.

The Darkness
 PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Original Release: June 25th, 2007

Odds are, a good chunk of you have at least heard of The Darkness. But I'm betting that most folks out there never actually had the opportunity to give the game a chance.

While it's currently a hidden gem, at least in my book, it likely won't be for too much longer. The Darkness II is looming large on the horizon, and its stylistic look, decent gameplay and over-the-top gore may be enough to pull it away from obscurity and into the light.

The first game, like all of these entries, had its flaws. The premise, however, is darn near perfect. Players take on the role of one mafia goon looking to make his way up the ladder of crime. It's a good thing this guy, Jackie, gets possessed by the epically powerful, darkness fueled demon arms in time to make his goals attainable.

You'll fight evil, other mafiosos and a grand scheme by the time you reach the end of the game. It can be a bit frustrating at times, and the story does have a tendency to stall; however, this cheap game is one anyone with free time should experience.

Seriously, you'll be able to find this game used for around five smackers.
