In this weekly column, we'll be selecting inexpensive, discarded titles from still playable consoles for your perusal. They may be games you've heard of and remember playing, or they may be games that have flown completely off of your radar. Just know that we love them and they're available on the cheap. That's a bonafide win/win situation.
If you have any favorite titles that you consider hidden gems, let us know in the comments below and we might feature your pick in the weekly column.
Little Big Adventure
Platforms: PC, PlayStation
Original Release: 1994
Little Big Adventure is typically earmarked, by gamers old enough to remember it, as one of the best MS DOS adventure games to release in the early 90s. It was charming, fun, addictive and advanced enough to wow you whilst playing.
Of course, that wow factor has likely evaporated over the course of 17 years (I feel old), and the once free-roaming feel probably doesn't feel as free as it did back when this title blew our minds.
Still, snag it and you'll be able to play as Twinsen as he aims to fulfill his destiny and foil FunFrock's (yep, "FunFrock") plans to continue rule of the planet and breed his mutant brood. There's a linear storyline to follow in the semi-open world; however, there are a few side-quest style objectives as well. This notion was pretty epic in 1994, we promise.
It's old, it's fun, it's awesome. Little Big Adventure actually just went on sale over at GOG.com, which is why it made our pick this week. This classic PC game may not meet the standards of today's adventures, but you could buy it to attempt old-school immersion. We loved it back then, you just might love it now.
Plus, an MS DOS game, folks, come on!
