With over 13 million copies sold, Bluehole is ready to bring PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds to the Xbox One. Whether it’ll remain an exclusive is still unclear—it’s very possible the game will be a launch exclusive and come to the PlayStation 4 at a later date.
The game will be released on December 12 through Microsoft’s Xbox Game Preview program, which means players will get to experience an unfinished version of the game. The approach is similar to the one Bluehole has taken with the PC, making PUBG available through Steam’s Early Access program.
But that in and of itself has both sparked hype and derision among the gaming community. Hype because the game’s simple premise and addictive gameplay make it one of the best titles of the year. Derision because, well, there are many reasons. Chief among them is the game’s unpolished feel and consistent jankiness.
Since its launch in March, PUBG has received several updates designed to provide players with a smoother, more polished experience. Hopefully, with the Xbox One version the gameplay won’t feel quite as unfinished.
In addition to the Xbox One version landing in December, BlueHole said version 1.0 will be available for the PC. What version 1.0 will consist of is unclear, though players can likely expect a new map along with the much anticipated vaulting mechanic.
