With Ant-Man and the Wasp in theaters, we got the first of two puzzles that will lay down the pieces ahead of Avengers 4. The next piece of the puzzle is Captain Marvel, and though we know she will play a role in Avengers 4, her movie isn’t out until next year. Right now, we want to focus on Ant-Man and the Wasp and how its ending will impact the next Avengers movie.

Spoiler alert: Major Ant-Man and the Wasp plot points and spoilers will be talked about.

During the post-credits scene in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Ant-Man goes subatomic into the Quantum Realm to collect quantum energy. It’s during the experiment that Hank Pym, Janet Van Dyne, and Hope Van Dyne succumb to Thanos’s plan of eradicating half of the universe’s population.

The unexpected turn of events leaves Scott Lang stuck in the Quantum Realm and left to figure out a way out on his own. Prior to the experiment beginning, Janet warns Scott to be careful with the time vortexes in the realm that can suck him in. That right there is a major sticking point because time travel is expected to play a huge role in Avengers 4.

With time traveling brought into the mix, this sets up the setting for Avengers 4 nicely. Set photos of Avengers 4 shows the heroes donning their suits circa 2012 in The Avengers. We’re not sure how they actually get to that point, but time traveling makes the scenario very possible now.

However, that doesn’t answer the question of how Scott Lang will get out of the Quantum Realm. There were a few nuggets dropped during Ant-Man and the Wasp that might play a role, including the possibility of him gaining new abilities like Janet Van Dyne did while in the Quantum Realm.

Avengers 4 has a release date of May 3 and we still need to see what Captain Marvel brings into the fold when it arrives in theaters next March. It will undoubtedly explain the last scene in Infinity War with the pager, but may also provide more concrete answers as to how the Avengers plan on regrouping and taking on Thanos once more, maybe even connecting to Ant-Man and the Wasp though time travel. Wouldn’t that be something.
