Hasbro may have just announced the hottest exclusive of San Diego Comic-Con 2017. You may want to get in line now.
Anyone who has attended SDCC the past few years knows getting the Hasbro exclusives is one of the toughest tasks at the show. Usually, Transformers fans want that one nifty new exclusive. G.I. Joe fans want theirs. Sometimes Transformers and G.I. Joe share exclusives. But what is going to happen where just about every Hasbro property crosses over into one massive exclusive?
Hasbro has announced the REVOLUTION Comic Crossover Preview Mega-Set as one of its SDCC exclusives. This massive set is going to sell for $99.99 and is just about guaranteed to be one of the hottest products at the show. The official press blurb follows:
When characters from different story worlds come together in a single storyline, they call it a crossover. For this event, they needed something bigger. MUCH bigger. Celebrate the beyond epic IDW Revolution crossover event with the REVOLUTION Comic Crossover Preview Mega-Set convention exclusive. Featuring 16 characters from seven story worlds, this set serves as a prelude to IDW's upcoming REVOLUTION: FIRST STRIKE sequel set for later this year. Many characters in this set are making their debut in the 3-3/4" figure format, and for the first time, characters from these brands are presented in a scale that allows the entire Universe to be played together! Includes JETFIRE from TRANSFORMERS, ROADBLOCK from G.I. JOE, ACTION MAN, a team of MICRONAUTS, MATT TRAKKER from M.A.S.K. MOBILE ARMORED STRIKE COMMAND, LEORIC from VISIONARIES and ROM and a DIRE WRAITH from ROM THE SPACEKNIGHT. The REVOLUTION Comic Crossover Preview Mega-Set will be for sale during San Diego Comic-Con 2017. Following the convention, a limited number will be available on HasbroToyShop.com.
The text from the interior of the cover flap says:
Explosions rip across the Earth – and all sides blame Optimus Prime and the Cybertronians! G.I. Joe refuses to go quietly – and they assemble heroes big enough to stop the invaders. Action Man and M.A.S.K. Mobile Armored Strike Kommand fight for humanity – but where do ROM and the Micronauts stand?
Here's the full rundown of what characters are included.

I asked Derryl DePriest, Hasbro's vice president of Global Brand Management, specifically about ROM in our interview concerning the Hasbro Cinematic Universe last year. At that time Hasbro had no immediate plans for ROM specifically, and the Micronauts and Visionaries also seemed iffy. This set is certainly no indication of complete product lines coming down the road, but lets take a moment to consider the cost of molds.
Most Comic-Con exclusives are repaints of items using existing molds because molds are not cheap to make. There are clearly several new molds involved in this set, especially for ROM's upper torso and head. Make of that what you will, but it certainly made me cock an eyebrow.
San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 19 through July 23.
