The creators of Pokémon GO have revealed their next game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and it's coming out Friday, June 21. The new title blends AR with the world of Harry Potter, and challenges players to hunt down beasts and creatures running amok in the Muggle world.
What will players do in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite?
Players will choose one of three classes: Magizoologist, Professor, or Auror. When you first start, you'll be a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, which has been assigned to investigate an event known as The Calamity.
A calamity has befallen the wizarding world, causing artifacts, creatures, people, and even memories to mysteriously appear in the Muggle world, according to Niantic. Witches and wizards from across the globe must come together to solve the mystery of The Calamity, overcome the confounding chaotic magic that surrounds these "Foundables," and return them to their rightful place, keeping them safe from Muggle eyes.
Once players come across these Foundables—at parks, college campuses, libraries, etc.—they must use their spells to send them back to the wizarding world. Every time a player returns a Foundable, they'll earn rewards.
Conversely, every time a player casts a spell, their Spell Energy will be consumed. The only way to replenish your Spell Energy is to visit an Inn, which can be found around the world. In addition to visiting Inns, players will also come across ingredients to brew potions. These ingredients vary depending on where you are, what the weather is like outside, and more.
Finally, Niantic said that players should keep an eye out for Portmanteaus. These environmental discoveries will allow players to visit iconic wizarding world locations, where players can explore these places in 360-degree augmented reality.
Team up with your friends
In addition to tracking down beasts, players can visit Fortresses, where they can team up with friends to take on Death Eaters and Dementors.
You won't want to face these threats alone—gather your friends to take on threats of even higher levels and recover rarer magical Foundables from within the Fortress walls, Niantic said.
This is where your wizarding class will come in handy. According to Niantic, you can team up and strategize with witches and wizards from other Professions, which will tip the scales in your favor.
When does Harry Potter: Wizards Unite come out?
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be available on Friday, June 21. Android users can pre-register right now on Google Play. Meanwhile, Niantic said that iOS users should stay tuned for updates as more information should be released soon.
