For the fourth time in five years, Harmonix has been forced to cut some of their talent. The studio let 17 employees go.

They confirmed the news to with an official comment.

"Today we made the difficult decision to say goodbye to 17 talented people as we restructured to align with our current and anticipated development needs. These people all played a role in making Harmonix and its games what they are today and we are more than grateful for their contributions. We are working to ensure that they are taken care of as we make this change."

GamesIndustry notes that this appears to be the largest of the four layoffs spread over five years. The company has multiple projects in the pipe, and there's no telling how they'll be affected by this change.

Have you heard of DropMix?

One of the cooler things Harmonix is working on right now is DropMix. This is a card-based video game that puts players head to head as they move in turns to make crazy mash-ups while earning points. They teamed up with Hasbro to make it happen. It's a wild and completely original concept, and that's where Harmonix shines. Here's a video of it in action.

DropMix hits this coming September.
