This is what remasters should be all about, my friends. Old games, the ones that still matter, are just as enjoyable today as they were upon release, and they should be relevant and available to incoming generations of gamers as well.

We have a whole history of quickly vanishing classics because publishers can't or won't take a risk on giving them a second chance on the digital market. Double Fine is not among them. Thanks to some crafty bureaucratic work, it was able to cooperate with Disney to pull Grim Fandango out from the underbelly of LucasArts and put the game back in the rightful hands of its creator, Tim Schafer.

Thanks to Double Fine taking a chance on this classic masterpiece, a whole new generation has a chance to see why it is so beloved.

Storytelling is at the center of every adventure game, and Grim Fandango has it where it counts. Its emotional tale takes our hero Manny Calavera on a journey of self-discovery through the afterlife meeting colorful characters and villains along the way. It's some of the best writing and voice acting you'll ever find in a video game, and it's something everyone who screams "Narrative first!" should experience.

As for gameplay, well, the best rewards come to those who work for them. To access Grim Fandango's wonderful story, you'll have to slog through some of the most obtuse puzzles the genre has ever seen. Pacing is an issue in Grim Fandango, but success is so much sweeter because of it.

Here is the launch trailer showing what is in store for you. You can expect our thoughts in the coming days once we finally get around to cracking a few of these enraging brain-twisters. Seriously, I can beat Monkey Island with my eyes closed, but I can't for the life of me remember how to get out of the first area of Grim Fandango!

Grim Fandango Remastered is available now for the PS Vita, PlayStation 4 and PC.
