Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V set a first day sales record on Tuesday racking up a staggering $800 million in sales.

Call of What?

Take-Two Interactive announced today that Grand Theft Auto V is now the proud holder of the first day sales record. Previous record holder Call of Duty: Black Ops II did $500 million in sales its first day in Nov. of last year, but that number couldn’t withstand the release of one of the most anticipated games in years. The universally positive reviews probably aren’t hurting the sales numbers either.

While the $800 million is a worldwide number, it has not yet released in some territories such as Japan and Brazil which will just add to the total. In other words, there is still yet to even more money to be made from this new title.

It’s amazing some people still consider video games for just kids. There are movie studios that would kill for their films to do this much over an entire theatrical run let alone just in the first day.
