Grand Theft Auto V - Frisk

So you think Grand Theft Auto IV was a big hit? It’s officially been overshadowed by its pesky younger brother, the recently released Grand Theft Auto V, in the U.K.

U.K. based figure-gatherer Chart Track has compiled its data, and looking at the numbers, concluded that after only three weeks of being available on the market, GTA V has eclipsed the sales figures its predecessor sold in five total years.

Reports of its success have been heard around the world, with $800 million sold in first day worldwide, followed by the breaking of the $1 billion mark on its third day. The U.K., being a very large and important market, reflects the trend which could easily be happening globally. The data already puts Grand Theft Auto V as the 12th best selling video game of all time it the region.

Surprisingly enough , after its groundbreaking debut, Grand Theft Auto V has been stuck in the number two spot for the second straight week, beaten back by FIFA 14. FIFA‘s numbers are dropping, meaning it might not be so long before GTA finds its way to the top again, but the sales of Saints Row IV and The Last of Us had been able to secure the top spot for four to five weeks. Must just be the busy season.

Exciting news from the biggest game of the year. I’m glad that we possibly won’t be seeing Call of Duty snatch the top of the charts for once. However, the news just drives me into isolation because now I feel like the only person in the world who has not played it.

Grand Theft Auto V is available now for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
