Gran Turismo 6 - 29

After the announcement of Gran Turismo 6 being bound for the PlayStation 3 yesterday, a lot of gamers felt a little let down seeing as Sony's massively popular driving simulator won't be highlighting the PlayStation 4.

Not to worry, though, because the series' outspoken Producer, Kazunori Yamauchi, suggests Gran Turismo 6 may still be next-generation bound. Here he is to IGN:

"We actually do have a PlayStation 4 version in mind, but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on PS3 for now."

So while it might not be a launch title as some were hoping, there still remains a chance you will be able to play Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 4. A cross generation release would be a first for the series, and given the typical passionate reaction the franchise enjoys, it could greatly boost sales figures with some fans buying it twice.

I mean, these are the fans that allowed the Gran Turismo 4: Prologue and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue to sell 1.4 million and 4 million units worldwide respectively. Seriously, they paid for a demo. I wouldn't put it past Sony to market Gran Turismo 6 as a next-gen demo either.

To date,Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec has been the only game in the series released relatively close to a console's launch. It also happens to be the best selling game in the series with nearly 15 million copies sold worldwide.

The PlayStation 3 version of Gran Turismo 6 will be released during the holiday season this year, and it will feature 1,200 new cars. Stay tuned for more on a potential PlayStation 4 release.
