Last month, Google sent out a call for developers to submit their kid-focused apps to a new section of the Play Store. Now it looks like the “Designed for Families” service could be launching later this month at Google’s I/O developers conference.

A message sent from Google to developers (and obtained by Phandroid) reveals a cut off date for the new kid-friendly endeavor on May 28. That’s the same day I/O kicks off, suggesting the company could make an announcement during the conference. Of course, Google will still take submissions afterwards, but getting your app in early will “increase the discoverability.”

We’re guessing “Designed for Families” will exist as a section within the broader Play Store, though Google hasn’t explained the specifics just yet. It’s also possible the company could launch an entirely new market for kid-friendly apps.

We’ll be covering I/O live on the ground on May 28, so check back soon for all the news on Google Play, Android, Android Wear and more.
