Next to its name, the most famous thing about Google is its colorful logo; the company settled on the four colors and cleaned up its lettering all the way back in 1999. It’s a brand that’s synonymous with the search giant’s growing presence on the Internet, in your pocket and even on your wrist with Android Wear. And because Google is no longer just a company where you go to look up the Capital of Alaska, the search giant on Tuesday officially unveiled a brand new logo—in a custom typeface called Product Sans—an identity that Google says reflects how it’s working for you.

“New elements like a colorful Google mic help you identify and interact with Google whether you’re talking, tapping or typing,” Google said. “Meanwhile, we’re bidding adieu to the little blue “g” icon and replacing it with a four-color “G” that matches the logo.”

Google has changed its logo many times over the past 17 years, the most recent change coming back in 2013. It’s a clean and friendly look, and it matches the company’s beautiful Material Design, which has become an important part of Android over the past year. Not only that, but Google says the logo will be legible on screens large and small, an increasingly important necessity in a world full of large TVs and tiny wearables.

It’s a fun and important change, and one that Google admits will probably evolve again in the coming years. For now, the new logo should be rolling out across Google’s many services soon.
